This fabled city gave its name to an entire civilization. In its day, Mycenae was rich and powerful. Homer typically referred to the city as \'rich in gold.\' And it was bloody: murder, intrigue, matricide, cannibalism. Tragedy was acted in Athens; it was lived in Mycenae.
