No more than a wide spot in the road, this is where the Spartan king Leonidas made his famous last stand with 300 of his fellow citizens. There is a monument marking the battle, but little else.

Historical Focus:
The first clash with invading Persians (in the summer of 480 B.C.) that, though a defeat, hinted at the victories soon to come.
